Supporting Sustainable Energy Management, Semen Baturaja Receives ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management Certificate

PALEMBANG – PT Semen Baturaja Tbk (SMBR) as a subsidiary of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) succeeded in proving its commitment to supporting sustainability strategies by achieving the ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management Certificate (SMEn) from PT Sucofindo on Friday (17/5 ).

The certificate handover took place at the SMBR Head Office, Palembang City, South Sumatra Province, and was handed over directly by the Main Director of PT Sucofindo Jobi Triananda to the Main Director of SMBR Suherman Yahya and also witnessed by the Director of Operations of SMBR Muhammad Syafitri.

SMBR President Director Suherman Yahya said that this certificate was a form of the company’s commitment to supporting efficiency in energy use.

“This energy management certificate is a sign of Semen Baturaja’s commitment to using and utilizing energy more efficiently and more effectively, and it is hoped that it will also be an added value for our company in the future in facing competitive competition,” said Suherman.

Meanwhile, Director of PT Sucofindo Jobi Triananda stated that the certificate given to SMBR had met standards in managing energy use and measuring energy performance in a sustainable manner.

“Delivery of the ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management System Certificate, as we all know, SNI ISO 50001: 2018 is an international standard that establishes a framework for efficient energy management in organizations. “This certificate is not only an acknowledgment of the hard work efforts of all Semen Baturaja employees, but also proof of commitment to sustainability, efficiency and innovation,” he said.

Suherman explained that SMBR has implemented a number of programs for energy efficiency and emission reduction, including reducing Green House Gas (GHG) emissions, carrying out green environmental management, waste management, and increasing the use of Alternative Fuel and Raw Material (AFR) to create an environmentally friendly cement industry. .

“Through these programs, in 2023 SMBR succeeded in reducing the intensity of carbon emissions (scope 1) from 587 kg CO2/ton cem eq in 2022 to 577 kg CO2/ton cem eq because the company succeeded in reducing the clinker factor from 69.4% to 68.6% and increase the Thermal Substitution Rate (TSR)  value from 2.62% to 3.01%,” said Suherman.

At the beginning of the year, SMBR succeeded in obtaining the Indonesian Green Label certificate with Gold Predicate from the Indonesian Green Product Council (GPCI) and achieved Green PROPER from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) of the Republic of Indonesia, this proves the company’s strong commitment to continuing to encourage the program – programs that have a direct impact on the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“All of these steps are in line with the implementation of Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) in every aspect of the company’s operations and we hope to achieve a higher award, namely Gold PROPER with various innovations produced in a sustainable manner,” he concluded. (*)
